I actually missed the big show, but I think I got a good flavor of it from your post. Thanks for sharing your wit. You had me cracking up picturing Angela Bassett off somewhere in L.A. cursing the Academy.

And I agree with you about Pacino — he has been there are soooo many other great characters that he should have received the Oscar nod for.

Well, exactly – it’s nothing like living abroad as an American and constantly feeling the need to apologise for your country’s leader. But this is exactly what I had to do from ‘02 to ‘08. And even I refused to apologise for the process that elected Bush – in ‘04 at least

I suspect this Nobel business will provide yet another point in the cult-of-personality column. Honestly.

I agree with you that America does not need the rest of the world to sanction our free and “fair” (2000) elections. However, I will never forgive Americans for unleashing GWB upon America and the world (GWB attacked the wrong country, 4000+ dead, 30000+ injured Americans, 100000+ dead and injured Iraqi citizens, SORRY, I digress), but I agree, we must stop apologizing and demand excellence from Barack Obama. We can’t continue to grade Barack Obama on the GWB scale. If the rest of the world wants to thanks us for choosing Barack Obama’s mediocre leadership, so what, as long as we know the truth. In the perception is reality world, Obama’s NPP win may prove useful, but that’s in the distant future. I’ve written so many Obama “lack of leadership” blogs, you know how I feel. I just hope this award doesn’t reinforce the Obama cult of personality echo chamber, and I hope our constructive criticism won’t continue to be drowned out.
